The ACRS Product Certification Scheme is an ‘ISO Type 5’ scheme. It certifies reinforcing and structural steel products along with associated steel products for use in Australia and New Zealand. The evaluation activities undertaken in the ACRS Scheme include:

  • processing applications from reinforcing and structural steel manufacturers from around the world;
  • initial document review and review of testing data;
  • annual on-site assessment and factory inspection of inputs, production processes, quality control and dispatch;
  • factory production control system audit;
  • review of on-site product testing capability;
  • ACRS selection of product samples and independent third-party verification testing;
  • regular in-depth product quality surveillance;
  • annual on-site surveillance audits to provide assurance of ensure ongoing conformity;
  • annual certificate issue to ensure certification is current and up-to-date.

ACRS is a not-for-profit certification body that uses assessors with metallurgy and engineering qualifications and experience in steel production, laboratory testing and quality control. The governing members of ACRS are reinforcing and structural steel specifiers, end-users and industry bodies (including Federal and State roading authorities, building regulators, construction and housing industry associations, universities and research bodies).
