AGA is a not-for-profit member-based industry association, the objectives of which are to support Australian industry and businesses through the provision of the highest quality product certification, laboratory testing and product development services for the gas, plumbing, electrical and whitegoods industries. AGA and its predecessor organisations, date back to 1925 when the National Gas Association (NGA) was formed and the first gas appliance codes were written by the NGA. In 1962, the NGA and the Australian Gas Institute merged to form the Australian Gas Association (AGA) and has earned international acclaim for its contribution to consumer safety and its technical expertise. AGA has progressively expanded the suite of product certification services available to include plumbing, electrical and whitegoods products, all of which are recognised by the relevant State and Territory Regulatory Authorities. These services have been built on a proud product certification history spanning over 50 years.
AGA is committed to supporting the efforts of these industries in improving the safety, reliability and environmental performance of Products for the benefit of the Australian community. AGA also provides technical expertise and test facilities to assist government and regulatory authorities investigating safety-related incidents or developing strategies to improve consumer safety.
AGA’s laboratory and product certification services are accredited to the international benchmark standards ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17065 and are monitored by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) and Joint Accreditation System for Australian and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ) respectively. Accreditation to these international standards is important and AGA’s laboratory and certification services were recently successfully audited by NATA and JAS-ANZ respectively, however, that is only part of the story. What is equally important, if not more so, is the organisation’s commitment to consumer safety, customer service and technical expertise.
